Southern Comfortably Numb

I've always been a drinker and a dreamer
making plans that never quite take hold
a swig of beer and I'm a big idea believer
sober I'm just slowly growing old

...and so I raise my glass to sweet surrender
and pour a little light into my life
suddenly the emperor's clad in splendor
and wisdom flows like wine from out my mind

...and I feel that I'm kind of like a child
in the throes of a passion I can't tame
I feel my emotions running wild
and I can't seem to get hold of the reins

Once upon a time I dreamed of riches
once upon a time I dreamed of fame
today I'm scratching much more humble itches
but the yearning and the emptiness remain

...and so I raise my glass to sweet surrender
and get myself southern comfortably numb
I think it's worked before (I don't remember)
close my eyes and let my kingdom come

...yeah I feel that i'm kind of like a king
on the throne of a country I can't name
it's so unreal, ragged subjects running wild
and I can't seem to get hold of my reign
